Visit of school leaders from the Prienai District Municipality: focus on educational directions and Erasmus+ project experiences

Particular interest was shown in the Erasmus+ KA210-SCH project “Social Vibes & Biz: music, technologies and social entrepreneurship”, implemented at Kaunas 1st Music School. The presentation of the project encouraged a meaningful discussion on what new competences students of music and art schools need today, and how artistic education can be connected with creativity, technologies, social awareness and broader social processes.

The “Social Vibes & Biz” project stands out because its essence lies not only in the development of traditional music education, but also in fostering students’ social entrepreneurship competences by integrating cultural and musical education with digital technologies and social responsibility. The project activities emphasise that the creative, artistic and musical abilities of music school students can become not only a form of self-expression, but also a basis for real social ideas, cultural initiatives and projects with social impact. The project aims to strengthen students’ ability to identify social problems, generate ideas, apply technological solutions, cooperate with representatives of various fields and model cultural-social entrepreneurship initiatives.

During the meeting, it was emphasised that this project is particularly relevant to music and art schools because it offers a broader approach to student education. Today, it is no longer enough to develop only performance technique, musical literacy or stage experience. It is becoming increasingly important for students to be able to connect their artistic abilities with the contexts of creative industries, technologies, social problem-solving, community needs and cultural initiative. For this reason, the “Social Vibes & Biz” project is attracting attention not only as an international Erasmus+ project, but also as a possible model for a new direction in Lithuanian music and art schools.

Now that a larger part of the project activities has already been implemented, it is clear that the project is generating considerable interest beyond the community of Kaunas 1st Music School. Its ideas, the final result being developed and the possibility of applying the methodological materials prepared during the project are of interest to leaders and teachers of Lithuanian music and art schools, as well as representatives of music and art schools in Latvia and Finland. This interest shows that the questions raised by the project are relevant to the wider field of music and art education: how to turn students’ creativity into action, how to connect artistic competence with social responsibility, and how to enrich the content of music school education with contemporary competences that are meaningful for students’ future.

This broader visibility of the project encourages the remaining project activities to be implemented even more responsibly, deeply and comprehensively. Since the final project product may be useful not only for the project partners, but also for other music and art schools in Lithuania, Latvia and Finland, it is especially important to ensure that the developed tools are practical, clear, pedagogically grounded and genuinely applicable in the educational process of schools. The methodological materials being developed, the strengthening of teachers’ competences, students’ creative activities and the modelling of cultural-social entrepreneurship are intended to contribute to the long-term impact of music and art school education.

The visit of school leaders from Prienai District Municipality became another opportunity to share the experience of Kaunas 1st Music School and to show that a contemporary music school can be not only an institution of artistic education, but also an open, innovative and collaborative educational community seeking new forms of learning. The topics discussed during the meeting demonstrated that music education today can be connected with students’ creative initiative, technological literacy, social sensitivity, cooperation and the ability to view artistic activity within a broader cultural and social context.
