Third Erasmus+ discussion: insights from teachers and school administration
On 1 December 2025, Kaunas First Music School hosted the third discussion within the ERASMUS+ KA210-SCH project “Social Vibes & Biz: music, technologies and social entrepreneurship”. It was the second of two discussions dedicated to collecting insights from teachers and the school administration on students’ social entrepreneurship and the use of technologies in the educational process. The discussion was moderated by piano teacher and expert Dr. Domantas Milius. This time, the focus was on how the school’s physical spaces, curriculum and community ties can become a real environment for social entrepreneurship.
School principal Mindaugas shared a broad vision of the music school as an open space that is conducive to entrepreneurship. The participants explored how the building and its day-to-day activities – lessons, rehearsals, concerts – could be activated in such a way that tourists and visitors to the city could attend them, while the income from these educational visits would be purposefully allocated to the needs of learners with disabilities and students who are war refugees. In this way, the music education institution would be understood not only as a centre of culture, but also as a centre of social support and community solidarity.
Jurgita Bražinskienė, head of the Social Leadership Association, presented a possible lesson model to support the development of project activities – from identifying a specific problem in the community to designing a social business idea and an action plan. She provided examples of how, in music lessons – for instance, in music history classes examining the creative and professional paths of composers and performers – it is possible to naturally integrate topics of social entrepreneurship, information technologies and leadership without losing artistic quality or the depth of musical content. In this way, the potential to link musical content with real-life situations and contemporary learners’ needs became increasingly clear.
During the discussion, teachers considered how to turn these ideas into real, student-led projects in which music would become a bridge between creativity, technology and helping others. It was underlined that it is important for learners not only to appear on stage, but also to understand how their talent can create tangible social value – supporting vulnerable groups in society, strengthening a sense of community and contributing to the visibility of sensitive social issues. According to the participants, such projects could become an important learning experience, shaping students’ attitudes towards responsibility, empathy and initiative.
The insights gathered will form the basis for further development of the “Social Vibes & Biz: music, technologies and social entrepreneurship” project content. Drawing on the ideas expressed during the discussion, practical workshops for teachers will be designed, sets of tasks for students will be prepared and social entrepreneurship projects will be planned, in which music will be combined with IT, tourism and community-based initiatives. It is hoped that this process will strengthen teachers’ confidence in integrating entrepreneurship and technologies into lessons, provide students with more opportunities to test themselves in real-life situations and contribute to the creation of a more open and inclusive music school.
