On 24 November 2025, the second discussion of the ERASMUS+ KA210-SCH project “Social Vibes & Biz: music, technologies and social entrepreneurship” took place at Kaunas 1st Music School. This was the first of two discussions dedicated to gathering insights from teachers and school administration (“Organization of expert discussions involving school teachers and administration”) on students’ entrepreneurship and the use of technologies in the educational process. The discussion was moderated by piano teacher-expert Dr Domantas Milius. The teachers jointly reflected on what specific entrepreneurial and technological skills students lack most today in order to feel confident about their future after graduating from music school; how music education could not only develop artistic abilities but also help address sensitive social issues – loneliness, exclusion, lack of community – and what the major internal barriers and fears (both among teachers and students) are that prevent bolder integration of entrepreneurship and IT topics into the educational process.
During the discussion, the teachers openly considered how prepared they currently feel to talk with students about future professions, the reality of being a freelance creator, working with clients, communication on social networks and project management. It was reflected that although students often master digital tools very well, they lack strategic thinking – how to turn their talents into ideas capable of creating both social and economic value. Teacher Tadas, critically assessing the current situation, emphasised: “If we want entrepreneurship not to be just a nice word in documents, we have to clearly state how many lessons, how much time and what resources we dedicate to it.
Otherwise we risk that it will remain only on the shoulders of enthusiasts.” At the same time, he suggested concrete ideas: “We could start from very small but real steps – one-month mini-projects in which students themselves plan whom their initiative is for, how they will reach their listeners and what benefit they will create for the community.”
Teachers and representatives of the administration of Kaunas 1st Music School actively engaged in the conversation, sharing real situations from lessons, concerts and students’ projects. It was emphasised that entrepreneurship and technologies must not “push music aside” – on the contrary, they can become a tool to strengthen students’ creative voice and help them act more confidently in society. Teacher Violeta drew attention to the emotional aspect: “I see how students light up when they realise that their music can help someone – residents of nursing homes, lonely neighbours or a classmate going through a difficult time. If we then add simple IT solutions – a video recording, a written story, a joint message on social networks – children see that their creativity has a real impact.”
At the same time, barriers also became evident – lack of time, a not fully clear goal of entrepreneurship education in a music or art school, fear of “not keeping up” with technologies and concerns about students’ motivation. Tadas pointed out that “it is important for teachers to feel that they are not alone – that there is a clear plan, methodological guidelines and a team with whom they can experiment, rather than quietly trying something ‘when there is a chance’.”
The insights gathered will form the basis for developing targeted teacher workshops, methodological recommendations and a set of practical tasks for students’ social entrepreneurship projects, in which music will be combined with IT and community-based initiatives. It is expected that this process will help to strengthen teachers’ confidence in integrating entrepreneurship and technologies into lessons, provide students with more opportunities to test themselves in real situations and encourage responsible, empathetic and meaningful use of digital resources in creating a better environment for themselves and others.
